Magic Johnson’s First Pro Game

My favorite basketball game ever was the first professional game that Earvin Magic Johnson ever played in. Magic was the #1 pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in 1979 and he debuted against the then San Diego Clippers. The game was very tight the whole way through, but I was witnessing the beginnings of a Hall of Fame career with what I saw from young Magic. He was throwing some incredible passes and the Lakers looked better than they had in quite some time. With the game drawing to a close, and the Clippers holding on to a one point lead, Magic passed the ball into Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who hit a 15-foot hook shot in the lane to give the Lakers their first victory in what would be a championship season. Magic was so excited that he threw himself into the arms of Kareem. As a fan watching at home, I was as excited as the players on the court were. I can honestly say that I have not seen a game that has thrilled me more than that one.
