Living Calmly in the Midst of Chaos

July 22nd, 2010 admin

We are fulltime RV’ers, who have lived a nomadic life for more than fifteen years, in a motor home, traveling and living in various places all over the United States. We’ve found ourselves in a variety of situations, but none quite so challenging for finding peace and quiet as this past week. We’ve traveled to northern PA, an area where we lived before we became RV nomads, to visit friends and family. Ordinarily, we park in the very peaceful fairgrounds here, and enjoy some weeks of visiting and exploring our old haunts before moving on. We miscalculated this time. Without thinking about it, we arrived just as the big annual fair was about to begin. Our normally peaceful fairgrounds have become a maelstrom of noise, diesel fumes and what seems like thousands of screaming little kids. I am practicing a Zen like ability to blank out noise right now. The midway is right behind our motor home. The Fire Ball seems to be the favorite ride, and goes in a big circle turning the participants upside down. Lots of screaming happening there. Last night was the tractor pull, where huge tractors, seemingly on steroids, showed their stuff. Oh, the noise…….. But……all was over by eleven p.m. Even the carnival guys were in bed by midnight. And it’s only going to be a few more days, and then……birdsong and blessed quiet again. It’s a good thing that our nomadic life has taught us to be adaptable. AND to recognize that all things pass.
