Today has been a pretty typical Sunday. I’m a procrastinator by nature, so I tend to put off all the chores and errands I need to get done until Sunday. Seeing as we have company visiting next weekend this meant there was a little more to accomplish than usual.
The day started waking up a little later than normal, which was nice for a change. While making breakfast I managed to multitask putting away some dishes and changing the laundry out. It’s amazing how much laundry my husband and I manage to accumulate between the two of us.
After breakfast we went to the gym and I did by standard hour of cardio. Instead of doing a solid hour on the elliptical I broke it up and did 30 minutes on the elliptical and another 30 on the treadmill.
I hate going shopping after the gym, but I need to pick up the Sunday paper for coupons and my husband needed new insoles for his shows, so we stopped by the grocery store for a few minutes before heading home.
It was game six of the Western Conference Finals in 1994. I’d just moved to Phoenix, AZ. I had the good fortune to buy a condo from a young lady who knew the owner Phoenix Suns. She took me to a sold out America West Arena where I watched the game from the Suns sky box. That alone would have made it the most memorable game ever for me. Nothing like free beer, no waiting in line for anything, and the best seat in the house to make a game great. The only thing that could have made this game better was if the Suns had won it. It had been a fairly close game in the first half. But the Houston Rockets had pulled away in the second. With only five minutes or so left in the game there wasn’t much for the Suns fans to cheer about. The Suns most dominant player at the time was Charles Barkley who unfortunately had a bad game. Kevin Johnson, aka KJ, was the guy who usually handled the ball for the Suns and set up the offense. He was known for his explosive speed driving the lanes. The Houston Rockets most dominant player was Hakeem Alajuan. At roughly seven feet tall he played dominant defense and could often be found directly in the path of opposing ball handlers trying to attack the basket. KJ was at a considerable height and weight disadvantage when he encountered Hakeem in his path as drove the lane late in the fourth quarter. Rather then pass off or change direction he leapt into the air. He propelled himself high enough to get his outstretched arm higher than Hakeems and slammed the ball through the hoop. America West Arena exploded in cheers. It was of course too little, too late. But that super human effort will never be forgotten by this fan or the thousands of others in attendance that day. And in man to man competition was as big an upset as David taking Goliath. That is the story of my favorite basketball game ever.

I remember that I’ve been working on a logo design that I need to complete. I look over the sketches, decide on a direction, turn on the other computer that has all the software I’ll need, and find that my mouse and keyboard aren’t working. I check it all out and can’t find the problem. I’m starting to get a little frantic and search for the manual. After all the turmoil, I find that I had reconnected the cords to the wrong area, which refers to another day when I disconnected everything so I could actually close the furniture doors that houses my system. I feel good now because I fixed the problem.
After an hour or so of working on the logo artwork, I get a little hungry and make some appetizers. The menu consists of salmon, chopped red onion, capers, a spoonful of mayo, and rosemary flavored crackers. I take the plate back to the computer and eat while I work. By now my son has moved his game system out to the living room and is playing his new game on the bigger television set. This is also where the computer is so I hear a lot of game noises and comments in the background. Now my son is hungry but decides to have a left over drumstick so he fixes his own lunch.
Another hour has passed when I’m satisfied with the logo and decide to send it off in the email. I always love the challenge of designing a strong logo for someone.
It’s been a slow, rainy Sunday where we fend for ourselves. It’s a little quieter around here since my husband is gone and since he took our dog with him too. Bit I don’t mind the quiet once in awhile.
I slept in this morning, until around 9 am, and remembered I needed to feed the cats. My husband normally feeds them, but he’s out of town for a week. It’s been raining with thunder and lightening, so they’re huddled together on the back porch.
I begin my usual routine of making coffee and then a morning pill, with a full glass of water, while I wait. I bought my favorite doughnuts yesterday, so I warm one up in the microwave, to have one with my coffee. I take both back to the bedroom and watch the news while I try to actually wake up. By now my son has risen for the day and is watching cartoons.
After my second cup of coffee, I start up the laptop and go to my favorite site for the news. I then go to my social network site to see if I’ve missed anything posted by relatives and friends. Lots of local comments about the rain, but nothing much really to report that I might have missed.
Today is Sunday, August 16, 2009. The main activity on Sunday revolves around our family spending time together and attending church. Debra and I have two boys named Daniel and David, ages 7 and 4, respectively. We had a very nice breakfast this morning, and we enjoyed conversation with the boys.
We then attended church at First Baptist Tillman’s Corner, in Mobile, AL. We enjoyed a wonderful time at church and came home for an awesome lunch of baked ham, green beans, and a green salad. We all took a nice nap, and I am doing what I enjoy on Sunday afternoons, which is doing some HITS on MTurk and watching a little TV. We don’t live the most exciting lives, but quite honestly, uneventful can be very enjoyable when you everyone is so busy during the week.
My favorite basketball game was the one between USA and Spain on Olympic games in Beijing 2008. It was the final game, game for the winner of Olympic tournament. I really wanted to see great American team with all NBA stars like LeBron, Wade, Bryant and all the others. But my favorite is Anthony. The game was amazing. USA was so powerful during the whole tournament and the final game was like whipped cream on the cake. It was amazing to watch how easy USA team score points from three points line, even centers players. The biggest European team Spain was on theirs knees. Totally powerless. This game was so important for USA because they wanted to prove that they are the best. And they did. It was great to watch “fight” under the basket between James and Gasol. Amazing night for all basketball fans.
To tell you about my day is to describe any other Sunday. I woke up around 7:30am with the kids knocking on the door. Got up to take a shower and make breakfast and waffles and a “Mexican-style” egg and corn tortilla dish called Miga’s. I took some time to wash dishes and sweep and mop the floor since the 9-month old is starting to crawl all over the house. There seems to be toys everywhere and sometimes it’s hard to keep the mess under control. Right now I’m washing clothes. This is the 6th load and I have at least 3 more to go. It’s a nice sized household so there are plenty of clothes to wash every Sunday.
Today was Sunday; we just had one last week but here it was again. I would have liked to sleep in but I missed a workout earlier in the week and needed this morning to keep up with my routine. I’ll be honest, the discipline of the workout schedule is nice but I awoke already thinking about a nap! After an hour of kenpo karate I was ready to hit the shower and get ready for church. At church we’ve been studying through the New Testament book of Romans and we found ourselves in chapter 9 this particular morning. After the service it’s not unusual for me to grab lunch with friends but today I just decided to eat leftovers at home. The reheated Mexican food was pretty tasty but I was already looking forward to crawling back in bed. After a much needed nap I surfed the internet for a while and then decided to watch a movie. All in all, it was a pretty relaxing and typical Sunday.

Today hasn’t been too much fun. I went to the store to pick up food and go to the bank. The second part was funny due to the fact that it is Sunday and they are closed, but today feels like a Monday. I got home and my girlfriend was in the office doing paperwork when I asked her to help put away the food. She decided to help by eating the food in the bag instead of putting it away. Then, around 11:30 she had to go to work and I started to watch my son Rylan play. It was raining like heck today and was pretty cool to see the lightning. That’s about it.
My college life is going playing basketball. I tell our basket ball game in my college, which is really spirit game and also maintain our health. Now that we’re up to speed on the changes, time to refresh ourselves on the old ones. Sure, we know our twos from threes, a blocked shot from a personal foul, but how well do we really know the NBA rules?
Our game Rules:
- Games are 48 minutes long.
- Players are allowed six personal fouls.
- Every time you scored, the other team is given possession of the ball.
- Zone defenses are allowed
- The number of timeouts teams is allowed in overtime increased from two to three regardless of the number of timeouts called or remaining during the regulation play or previous overtimes.
